It announces that Royal stage painter David Drachmann’s illustration of the six categories would decorate the front page of the songbook.

DR – Nyheder (national): “Kim Larsen eller TV-2: Du bestemmer indholdet i ny EU-sangbog” / “Kim Larsen or TV-2: You decide content in new EU-Songbook”, by Silas
Summary: The article focuses on the peoples’ uppertunity to participate and tells the story of how the two prime founders, Italian music editor Francesco Cali, and Danish Jeppe Marsling, met over music and developed the idea in 2003. Peter Duelund, head of Nordic Institute of Culture, who is a researcher of European culture and politics, applauds the project:
“The EU-Songbook is a genius model, since it is a civilian project that EU hasn’t interfered with – and that is very important, since experience shows that EU often takes over the steering of culture projects, that they support (…) We are entering a new phase in EU where culture is the defining element, and in my view EU will fall apart if cultural initiatives do not arise. EU’s biggest threat is not the Euro. On the contrary, the greatest threat is if we do not build a cultural community”

Kristeligt Dagblad (national): “EU skal have en sangbog” / “EU is getting a songbook”, by Sidsel Drengsgaard
Summary: The article focuses on the fact that the EU-Songbook doesn’t seek financial support from EU, and quotes founder Jeppe Marsling for saying:
“Many has uttered, that if EU doesn’t becomes a peoples’ project, it will fall apart. We can’t just lean back and leave this to the politicians, we must also act ourselves One cannot create peoples involvement from above, which is why we have experienced that the EU-commissions attempts to create an “European Identity” has failed”.

Optakt (classical music news site): “Europa synger” / “Europe sings”, by Hannah Kvetny
Summary: The articles focuses on the intimate cooperation between the NGO and music academies and choirs in EU, that have been very supportive. It quotes founder Jeppe Marsling for saying:
“With our initiative we wish to communicate, both with music and poetry, that “The European Identity” fundamentally must consist of the exchange of the 28 national cultures. The song treasures are the hearts of the cultures in the 28 member states: With The EU-Songbook we hope to lift the lids to these treasures”.

GAFFA – Nyheder: “Skal Gasolin’ eller TV-2 oversættes til polsk, tysk og fransk?” / “: “Gasolin” or “TV-2: Which band is to be translated into Polish, German and French?”, By Michael Dyhrborg
Summary: The article focuses on how the idea behind the EU-songbook was born, out of ignorance and curiosity, and quotes founder Jeppe Marsling for saying:
“The deepest motivation was, that we, in the EU member states, dont know much of each other. We live side by side, men if you ask a Dane if he/she can name a song from Poland, I doubt that many can come up with a song title”.
http://www.gaffa.dk/nyhed/95797
DR – “P1 MORGEN” (national radio) 1:
Summary: The interviewer introduces the project and interviews chairman Jeppe Marsling, who remembers how he phoned EU-Commission to ask whether the name “EU” was a protected title, after which he declares that all citizens are welcome to open a “EU-laundry mat, an EU- soup kitchen or an EU-Songbook”. He explains that the deepest motive behind the songbook was a melancholy, due to the lack of knowledge of the cultures of the closest neighbors, and that he was tired of being overfed by American culture. As an example of a nominated song from another EU-country than Denmark, he mentioned Germany, that nominated “Die Gedanken Sind Frei”, a song that deeply touched him. He sings the first verse (in German) and explains that it is a text about mental freedom. Finally he underlines that the EU-songbook is not only meant for choirs and institutions of education, but also meant for casual meetings among EU-citizens on festivals, parties and interrail.
